The Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra will present Starlight in Symphony at the Pilbeam Theatre featuring internationally renowned Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi.

Mr Tedeschi will perform the dramatic Grieg Piano Concerto and Gershwin’s jazz-influenced classic, Rhapsody in Blue.

“I am looking forward to returning to Rockhampton,” he said.

“I don’t think I have been there since I was 17 or 18.

“It will be exciting to perform with the Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra, and from what I have heard, they sound wonderful.”

Simon Tedeschi is one of Australia’s most renowned classical pianists with over 30 years of experience.

“When I was in school, there was a boy with mild cerebral palsy who was playing the piano as part of his physical therapy,” he said.

“I was studying ballet, but hearing the piano changed everything.

“He was the inspiration for what turned out to be my career.

“In my family, I have some members who played musical instruments but haven’t continued with it.”

Acclaimed by respected critics and peers as “True greatness” (Sydney Morning Herald), Tedeschi performed his first Mozart piano concerto in the Sydney Opera House at age nine.

Recent engagements have included as soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra; Sydney Festival, Art Gallery of NSW, performances of Echoes of the Jazz Age – Tedeschi’s third creative collaboration with Australian theatre icon John Bell AO OBE.

Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra Conductor Owen Clarke will again bring his professional conducting talents to Central Queensland, honed while Director of Music for the Royal NZ Air Force and Navy Bands, Auckland Philharmonia and Christchurch Symphony.

Audiences will swoon to Mozart’s famous 40th Symphony and find it hard to resist tapping along with Aaron Copland’s Hoe-Down and other well-known classics.

Performing since 2018 and featuring the talents of 50 local musicians, Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra is proud to present Starlight in Symphony.

The performance is scheduled for the Pilbeam Theatre on Saturday 18 June from 7.30pm.
