Glimpse of early transport

This bus, with passengers in period costume, provided a glimpse of early Rockhampton transport in Yeppoon’s Pineapple Festival parade of 2003.

The bus is a 1917 International with a four-cylinder petrol engine. Extensive restoration was carried out by members of the Rockhampton Heritage Village with expert help from a Melbourne coach builder.

This vehicle used pneumatic tyres – a big advance over the solid rubber of the previous model. It was used on the run from East St (Subway corner, William St) to Yaamba Rd (Red Hill).

The bus is still on display at the Heritage Village.
