Smoke hazy has covered the skies during the week.
Spotted a fire near Etna Creek Thursday afternoon and noticed a Pyro-cumulus cloud sitting on top.
That’s usually is associated with extreme heat from fires and volcanoes.
If the air is unstable enough then it can form a Cumulonimbus Flammangentius which can raise smoke high enough to make the smoke persist for a long period.
This also could form a severe storm with a tornado which we call a FireStorm.
One in the Black Saturday fires turned over a fire truck on the NSW/VIC border, From memory there was a fatality.
The erratic nature of one in the USA wiped out a crack team of firefighters who could not see it coming from the thick smoke.
On Wednesday one of its cousins a High Based Thundery Shower (HBTS) formed ‘dry lightning’ that struck Durack House in Brisbane.
Energex recorded 7000 strikes that day.
Lucky our vigilant Fire Brigade was there in time to put out the blaze, it all goes to show the Fire Season is with us and we all must be vigilant.
So be fire smart and don’t let the fire start.
After Black Saturday it is mandatory in Victoria to have a fire extinguisher or tender available with any vehicle in a paddock or working in the bush.
Question is would the Etna Creek fire have lasted as long if it had applied this principle?
Thundery showers Friday week ago, only rainfall (mm) of interest was Woodleigh 25, Mid Kroombit 12 and Callide Dam 10.
There was some very isolated HBTS (dry-lightning) from Monduran to Makowata and maybe Kroombit same day as the Durack House fire.
The storm did not turn up at Suncorp Friday week ago just as forecast!
Here are some of the seven day rainfall totals recorded in Queensland during the week.

The SETW after blowing gusts to 67kph last Monday eased a little during Thursday only to slowly increase Friday.
Seas peaked around two metres making conditions a little rugged.
Dylan a Gym Instructed in Rocky moved to Nannup in WA.
Around 4am in the morning Wednesday a storm hit it ripped out a tree; metres from his house and plus it demolished his neighbour’s fence.
This looked like a Severe Storm with a small tornado called a COCKED BOB in WA which happens in September.
Busselton recorded 91mm; an all time record for September.
Plus Rottnest Island recorded 128kph gusts.
Told him he was safer here LOL.
Other extreme events Derna in Libya had a “Medicane” cause two dams to flood.
The SOI after giving us some hope with a plateau -9 last week.
Has now fallen into -13 territory.
Last time we saw this similar value was in 2019.
This makes one rather scary for the coming months.

This was the 26th hot car fatality in the US.
FORECAST
The large HIGH (see map) had a strong inversion that is causing smoke to stay over NSW during the State’s Big Burn-Off.
The heat is on the way for NSW.
Western Sydney could be 36C Sunday as the high breaks down.
The HIGH is currently causing the fresh to strong gusty South East Winds for most of the Queensland coast.
It has been rather pleasant across CQ with cool mornings (cold in Bilo minimums 6C Wed/Thr).
Warm breezy to windy days with maximums around 26/27C with a feel like 23/24C in the afternoon.
Absolutely Tradesman Weather! Not for long!?
As the winds gradually ease maximums edge to 29C Monday then close to 30C Tuesday.
As the winds turn north east and back to north westerly if the inversion breaks a sudden jump to 33/34C is possible Wednesday.
Could be an isolated HBTS about in the west (CH) which may reach the Bruce late.
Watch for a chance of some fog about near Gladstone early Wednesday.
If so it may redevelop along the Bruce early Thursday.
Then a hot 35/36C Thursday, not seen in five months.
This hopefully is followed by an SETW ramping up along the coast late Friday/Saturday.
