The following excerpt is from the Capricorn Coast Historical Society 2019 publication Tales of the Capricorn Coast, available from our premises at the Bunker, rear of 25 Normanby St Yeppoon.
Gwen Petersen wrote the chapter on ‘Tennis in Yeppoon’.
“Yeppoon has had a number of tennis courts over the years. One of them was the ‘Seaview’ court. It was located on the western side of the School of Arts building (site of the present Town Hall) in Normanby St.
“It had painted lines on a hard gravel and unforgiving bitumen surface, requiring virtually no maintenance.
“Wary of gravel rashes and trips on the pitted surface, players quickly learned not to slide towards an oncoming ball.
“Cars would be parked on Normanby Street and players would walk up the ‘mountain goat’ track to the court and clubhouse.”
