Countdown for CapriCon

Well, the countdown is over.

CapriCon 2023 is all ready to knock your socks off tomorrow as Rockhampton Showgrounds transforms into the largest single-day pop culture convention in regional Queensland.

This year’s line-up is the biggest yet, with combat archery craze – Dodgebow, the voice of Scooby Doo – Neil Fanning, Wolf Creek’s John Jarratt, comedian and host of ABC’s TV Show ‘Gamer’, Harry Jun, plus a medieval village, Lightsaber Academy and all things, comics, cosplay, anime, gaming and more.

It’s so exciting to see how this event has grown over the past six years.

The Central Queensland community are extremely lucky to be able to experience such a high calibre pop culture convention without having to travel to a capital city – the quality of the guests and vendors this year are out of this world, and each year we attract more and more visitors from outside thew region.

CapriCon plays a pivotal role in our region’s visitor economy with 23 per cent of attendees coming from outside the region bringing in over $340,000 in overnight visitor expenditure, and the more the event continues to grow each year, the more this number will increase.

An exiting line-up of celebrity appearances include actor John Jarrett, best known for his role as Mick Taylor in the terrifying Wolf Creek franchise, gamer and comedian Harry Jun who is host of the show The Loot Droop and cosplayer I-Artemis-I, a multi-award-winning cosplayer, who has represented Australia twice in the World Cosplay Summit in Japan.

There’s also comic artist Dean Rankine, best known for his work on Simpsons Comics and The Riverdale Diaries, comic artist Mark Raats, an illustrator that works primarily for Disney and Lucasfilm and prop artist Warren Duxbury, a puppeteer who brought us channel 7’s Agro.

CapriCon Pop Culture Convention is on today, Saturday 2 September from 9am.

Whether you’re attending to learn manga drawing or to battle it out on the Dodgebow field, CapriCon certainly has something for all ages and all interests.

Entry is just $6 with children under 6 years free.
