RSL stalwart commended

Gracemere and District RSL Sub Branch was recently visited by a busload of Young Veterans and members of Gladstone and Boyne Island Sub Branches as well as members of Capricornia and Rockhampton RSL for camaraderie over a few drinks and a barbecue lunch.

Young Vets’ primary objective was to make a presentation to Bas Soper, our welfare officer.

Kat Smith, RSL wellbeing advocate, also played a part in this recognition of Bas, with her introductory speech lauding Bas Soper’s dedication and commitment to the cause, being that of helping out veterans in their hour of need – sometimes to the end.

She then handed over to Jon Felton, Young Veteran and vice-president of the Gladstone RSL Sub Branch who proceeded with the presentation, reading out the commendation from Keith Payne, VC Veterans Benefit Group, and endorsing its message himself, saying of Bas, “going above and beyond is an understatement!”

Our members heartily agree that this recognition and appreciation of Bas’ tireless volunteering is well deserved and the generous donation of his time contributes enormously to our mission.

This is quite a prestigious award and Bas was extremely surprised and most appreciative of receiving it.
