Energy savers on home appliances

I’m proud to be a part of a government that takes the national cost of living pressures Queenslanders are feeling seriously.

Our latest Budget is providing the largest cost of living package in the nation, with a record $8.2 billion in concessions this financial year to help ease national cost of living pressures and help Queenslanders.

We’ve just announced new support to help Queenslanders save on their energy bills, with our new $22 million Smart Energy Savers program.

The Smart Energy Savers program will offer rebates of up to $1,000 for eligible households when purchasing energy efficient appliances of four stars or higher.

Around 40,000 Queensland households are set to benefit from this key cost of living rebate.

Making the switch from two to four star appliances is estimated to save Queensland households hundreds to thousands of dollars a year off their power bill. I know how important those savings are right now for families in our community.

Eligible appliances for the rebate include washing machines, dish washers, dryers, refrigerators, air conditioners, and solar and heat pump hot water systems.

Rebates will range from $300 to $1,000 and are limited to one per household. Low income households will be able to claim the most on appliances, however all Queenslanders will be eligible to access this cost of living support.

For example, if a family upgraded their washing machine from two stars to four stars, they would be eligible for a $300 rebate and would save an average of $117 off their power bill a year. A low-income family would be eligible for the higher $550 rebate.

You can find out what you’re eligible for and register your interest now at QueenslandSavers.com.au. Applications will open in September.

The Smart Energy Savers rebate is the first initiative of our $60 million household energy savings program to support Queenslanders to take up energy efficient measures and advice on appliances and household batteries. Additional programs will be rolled out over two years.

You’ll also start to notice our energy rebates coming off your power bill, with $550 for every Queensland household and $1072 for senior and concession card holders applied quarterly, depending on your billing cycle.

The Palaszczuk Government has a proud history of providing energy relief. Since 2018 we’ve been able to provide all Queensland households with a total of $1,125 in electricity rebates, this is including the $550 over the next financial year.

We’ve been able to provide this relief because we have kept our energy assets in public hands, so all Queenslanders can share in the profits.
