Happy birthday to the horse

Race day at Farnborough in the 1920s. Donated by J. Sibley

On the first of August each year in this part of the world, horses celebrate their birthdays.

In the northern hemisphere this is celebrated on the first of January.

The Capricorn Coast Historical Society is happy to share some local historical equine photos.

Here is an extract from Morning Bulletin, 30 January, 1925 P7.

“Across the road in what used to be known as the bullock paddock, is the Farnborough racecourse; the land is let to the Jockey Club by Mr Brown.

It is a nice track and there is any amount of shade and good water handy for visitors. It is an ideal picnic course.”
