Informative day at Cockscomb

At U3A Rockhampton, members enjoy many social outings each year.

Recently a large group travelled to Cockscomb Veterans Retreat at Cawarral where they enjoyed an interesting and informative day.

U3A member Nick Quigley, a Vietnam veteran who is heavily involved in Cockscomb Retreat, acted as host and tour guide to the group.

Nick described the origins of Cockscomb Retreat and the planning and ongoing work by veterans over the years to make it what it is in 2023.

Members of the U3A group were full of praise for the very inviting, pleasant place that has been created surrounded by bushland for, not only veterans of all military services, but civilians too who can visit or stay to enjoy all that it offers.

Once again, U3A social coordinator Bev Meredith and her troop of helpers provided lots of fun with lucky spots, hidden tokens and a raffle which was won by George Shuttleton.

U3A would like to express their sincere thanks Nick and the volunteers at Cockscomb who provided the group with a wonderful day including a delicious barbecue lunch.

Cockscomb Retreat is well worth a visit.
