The cyclone of 1931 caused widespread damage along the Capricorn Coast.
The Mackay Daily Mercury of Thurday, 5 February 1931 reported that “Residents at Yeppoon and Emu Park experiencd a night of terror during which nearly 10 inches of rain fell and mountainous seas pounded the coast at Yeppoon. Only three bathing sheds were left standing out of 55, and the life-saving shed which recently was erected at a cost of 300 pounds, had disappeared.”
The image shows part of the clean up that followed, with most of the salvaged material being used in the rebuilding program.
