Lace up for River Run

Thousands of runners in Rockhampton and surrounds are lacing up their joggers and warming up for the annual 7Rocky River Run next Sunday, an iconic event for our region that not only brings together the community but also a major tourism drawcard for avid runners across Queensland.

Held alongside the mighty Fitzroy River (Tunuba), the event is a picturesque way to see the city sights, river and parklands while fundraising for local charities.

As the event draws near, we are already seeing an increase in runners and walkers registered as opposed to this time last year, with more participants coming from outside the region. This is great for our tourism and hospitality operators with the event becoming more than an overnight visit for some, and becoming a staple event on the region’s annual event calendar.

If you haven’t registered yet, head to www.sevenrockyriverrun.com.au and put your name down to run or walk your chosen event. With the option to take on the 21km, 10km, 5km or 2km, you don’t need to be a runner, walking is fun too!

It was an exciting announcement for Rockhampton this week as the Queensland Tourism Industry Council announced their finalists in the annual Top Tourism Town Awards, with Rockhampton named one of them.

The annual award recognises outstanding regional destinations, honouring communities that demonstrate a commitment to visitor excellence. The program is a two-part process consisting of a written submission judged by a panel of tourism professionals, which resulted in our successful placement as one of seven finalists in the population over 5,000 category, and the second involves public voting up until 24 May 2023.

If you love the region as much as we do, please share this news with your networks and vote for Rockhampton! You can cast your vote at www.qtic.com.au/top-tourism-award and each vote will go in the draw to win a three-night stay at the 5-Star RACV Noosa Resort in a luxurious three-bedroom Villa, with a private rooftop spa and buffet breakfast for up to six people.

Awards such as these not only demonstrate the pride we have in our region, but also put us at the forefront of people’s minds when they are selecting their next holiday destination.

Rockhampton has so many wonderful tourism experiences and this is a great way to put Rocky on the Radar as a destination of choice to travellers.

So spread the word to family and friends and vote now to Put Rocky on the Radar!
