With a menu featuring various dishes showcasing the best Australian produce, the Red Lion Hotel in Rockhampton is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
The Red Lion Hotel has a proud history in the region with the historic landmark being first licensed on 1 January 1911.
In August 2016, the hotel was purchased by the Carr Family, who went to work renovating the establishment into the modern dining experience it is today.
The Red Lion Hotel’s kitchen is led by head chef Alex Batchelor who has been on the team since December 2021.
“I went to Bundaberg to complete my apprenticeship before returning to Rockhampton to look for a job,” he said.
“I was offered a job in the kitchen and have enjoyed it ever since.
“We have five chefs in the kitchen, and the rest of the staff at the Red Lion Hotel are friendly. It’s a welcoming environment.
Mr Batchelor said the Red Lion Hotel uses a variety of local producers for their lunch and dinner menus.
“We try to use local as it’s important to support them, and they also care about the product they give you,” he said.
One of the menu’s standout dishes is the steak Mr Batchelor said is cut in-house, maintaining quality and consistency.
“We pride ourselves on the steak we serve,” he said.
“Other popular favourites include the twice-cooked lamb rump with roasted potatoes, green beans, blistered tomato and rosemary mint jus and the char-grilled chicken breast with confit sweet potato, asparagus, toasted pistachio, bacon and herb jus.
“But my favourite item on the menu is the massaman beef cheek with sweet potato fondant, greens, crunchy peanuts and sweet potato crisps.”
The Red Lion Hotel is located at 138-140 Denham Street and is open from 10am to late Monday to Sunday.
