Colourful orchids on show for Autumn

This weekend, Saturday, 15 April and Sunday, 16 April the Rockhampton Orchid Society will be presenting its annual Autumn Show at the Frenchville Sports Club North Rockhampton.

The two-day show will open on Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday from 8am to 2pm.

The Society, which has been in operation for 68 years, is proud to present two shows per year, and they will hope to present their 2023 Spring Show in late September.

Shows are held in autumn and spring which allows our visitors the opportunity to see genera which flower specific to that season, as well as the other varieties that flower multiple times per year.

One of the genera that flower well during Autumn is the Dendrobium (hard cane variety), the soft cane variety feature in our Spring Show. Dendrobiums comes in many classes – Phalaenanthe, Intermediate and Spatulata types, Australian and Exotic Species as well as other varieties. There will also be a vast range of many other genera tabled for our visitors to admire.

The show also includes foliage entries so patrons can check out the magnificently grown ferns, bromeliads, etc.

There will be a large club display in the foyer and Orchid Container Displays, floral arrangements and corsages entered for judging to admire.

Rockhampton Cake Decorators will again have their popular display, cake sales and raffle.

The Society will have Orchid and Plant Sales of members’ plants. Two out of town vendors, MnS Orchids from Sarina and Alice’s Orchids from Townville, will be in attendance selling many varieties of orchids.

Visitors will have the opportunity to win a beautiful flowering orchid in the free lucky draw prize and the major show raffle prize will be a garden trolley filled with gardening supplies and plants.
