U3A and the game of Mahjong

The game of Mahjong is one of the most popular activities held at U3A Rockhampton and District.

If you are unaware of U3A (University of the Third Age), you really need to check out what it can offer to anyone who has left their working life behind and is looking for social and intellectual stimulation in their retirement years.

U3A began 50 years ago in France and quickly spread worldwide. U3A Rockhampton now has over 400 members who enjoy activities such as monthly social luncheons, a monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of each month, photography, birdwatching, writing for pleasure, poetry for leisure, financial affairs discussions, digital training and so many more… including mahjong which is held on Tuesdays and Fridays, 12.30 to 4pm, every week at Teman by Fitzroy.

“This year we have started holding a birthday afternoon tea during the last Friday mahjong of the month for participants,” U3A Mahjong coordinator Cynthia Drane reported.

“And we always welcome new players, both experienced and absolute beginners; and I thank our members who are always willing to teach the game to newcomers.”

Anyone interested in playing mahjong, please contact Cynthia on 0418 227 760.

For general enquiries about U3A, contact president, Cheryl Wickes on 0428 452 836 or check out the website, U3Arockhampton.org.au
