Retired police get together

The Rockhampton branch of the Queensland Retired Police Association Inc commenced about 40 years ago and is still operational at this time.

The branch has a total of 35 members made up of life members, veteran members, associate members and one honorary member, the police chaplain.

The branch meets on a monthly basis at the Frenchville Sports Club in the Sportsman Room at 10.30am on the first Wednesday of each month with the exception of January each year when the branch is in recess.

Meetings are well attended on a regular basis and usually take about one hour.

Fellowship takes place at the club after each meeting. This also allows for shopping, etc, after the meeting.

The branch attends Anzac Day and National Police Remembrance Day celebrations each year.

We also have a great barbecue in March and September each year at Cockscombe Veterans Retreat.

All members thoroughly enjoy these days – they are very appreciated indeed.

Other activities include an annual dinner in November each year.

Our dinner has the reputation of being one of the best in the state.

Monies raised from a monster raffle are donated to Queensland Police Legacy.

The branch also attends medal presentations and the opening of police stations, etc.

It is known there is a number of retired police officers residing in the Rockhampton area.

This is a great opportunity to meet up with former workmates or to meet up with some new ones.

We respectfully invite any retired police officer to contact secretary Dennis Smith 0749 283 245 or 0408 321 416 or president Barry Self on 0749 280 926 or 0407 588 635.
