Cyclone’s devastating effects

Cyclones have often caused damage on the Capricorn Coast and surrounding areas. Yeppoon has had several devastating ones including, more recently, Category 5 Marcia in 2015 that crossed near Shoalwater Bay.

Cyclone David swept across the coast north of St Lawrence back in January 1976. In Yeppoon 30 houses were unroofed, as well as some in Mount Morgan.

In Rosslyn Bay, due to the high tides and strong winds, the breakwater was destroyed along with many vessels moored within the bay.
