Leading artist hosts workshop

In March Rockhampton artists will have a unique opportunity to observe and learn from one of Australia’s leading artists.

Todd Whisson, who is an Australian post war contemporary artist, hails from Griffin in Queensland.

Having made the transition from Impressionism some years ago, Todd’s signature style of loose and spontaneous painting will be on display at a two-day workshop to be held in the rooms of the Royal Queensland Art Society at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre on 18 and 19 March.

During the workshop Todd will demonstrate his ability to use the palette knife and scrapper.

As a plus for those attending his workshop, he will also work from photos of local scenes – Five Rocks and Carnarvon Gorge – explaining how to simplify subjects, create expressive trees from basic shapes and to develop dramatic landscapes and seascapes.

In May 2022 Todd won the prestigious Lethbridge Landscape Prize valued at $20000. Todd’s landscape ‘The Road to Kilcoy’ was chosen from over 850 entries.

He was also a finalist in the Clayton Utz Art Prize and the Kennedy Prize and his paintings may be seen in galleries around south east Queensland.

Bookings are now open to the public. Workshop cost is $200. To book or for more information phone Coral on 0402382121/ 49282878 or email coralmorris45@gmail.com

The workshop is being sponsored by RRC RADF and RQAS Rockhampton branch Inc. For more information on the Royal Queensland Art Society phone Lyn on 0409 059 332.
