Strategy Guy’s long awaited visit

John Hale, 'The Strategy Guy' kicked off the Capricornia Chamber of Commerce's events for 2023.

The Capricornia Chamber of Commerce kicked off its events for 2023 with the long-awaited workshop conducted by John Hale, “The Strategy Guy”, on Tuesday 7 February.

It was a telling example of how much the Covid pandemic has affected daily life that it took nearly two years for the Chamber to eventually bring John to town as guest speaker.

John’s reputation for deep and well-considered analysis of the strategy process was very much evident through the 90 minute workshop.

His six steps of Feel (the environment), See (what’s about), Connect (with others), Plan (what might be done), Focus (on what’s important) and Move (put your plan into action) resonated with all participants. This was an excellent example of the Chamber’s objective of informing and educating

The next members meeting is on Wednesday 1 March on the topic of Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace. We know that Covid and associated issues have severely impacted mental health, and none moreso than businesses which had to ride the rollercoaster of the changing business environment.

However mental health in the workplace is often hard for business owners and managers to approach. How do you recognise it, and what supports are available for businesses? We will have several local experts with complementary insights to help you manage this serious issue. The event will be at Cocobrew, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Register under Events at capricorniachamber.com.au.

We have also applied for funding under the State Government and CCIQ’s Chamber Wellness Fund to conduct further events on this topic. So attendance on 1 March will be a good indicator of the level of need in this area.

The series of workshops planned for the coast commences on 15 March, from 7am to 8.30 am, with breakfast included. Your host for the morning is Craig Gibbs, businessperson, mentor and coach, who will take you on a journey of discovery. This interactive session will move you from zero to hero and identify the five deadly sins of why goals are not reached. Craig will share with you the pendulum theory and provide the toolbox for you to carry out your own repairs on your business or life to immediately make a difference. Again, please register on the Chamber’s website.

Free Chamber coffee mornings recommence on Wednesday 22 February, courtesy of the Rockhampton Manufacturing Hub, and will be held at Jolt in the Parkhurst Town Centre, at 7.30 am.

If you’re thinking of joining the Chamber, these sessions are a good way of meeting other business owners and managers and learning about the Chamber. Don’t forget to specify your coffee order when you register.
