U3A Rockhampton and District held its annual Expo of Activities at Frenchville Sports Club on 7 February and members were overwhelmed by the response from the community.
“It was wonderful to see such a great response to our Expo,” U3A Rockhampton and District president Cheryl Wickes said.
“We actually ran out of new membership forms… but we did not lose any visitors. We were quick to send out forms to all of them after the meeting, and we look forward to welcoming many new members.
“We are spreading the word about U3A (University of the Third Age), and offering everyone, when they leave their working years behind, a group where they will find intellectual and social stimulation!”
First formed in France in 1973, the concept of promoting learning, fitness and fun for everyone into the years after retiring from work, their “Third Age”, captured the imagination and soon spread throughout the world.
U3A Rockhampton & District was formed in 1988, offering many activities to its members from gardening, writing, mahjong, ukulele, and choir, to birdwatching, IT, financial and current affairs discussions, armchair travel, and so many more.
A general meeting is held on the first Tuesday of each month at Frenchville Sports Club, and it is always fun and informative with interesting guest speakers.
