Capricorn Coast Historical Society
The Scenic Highway linking Yeppoon and Emu Park was constructed by Main Roads Commission during the late 1930s with an important link being this bridge and causeway across Shoal Creek (The Causeway).
Constructed from both ends, the two arms of the causeway came together on Monday, 20 November, 1939.
More work was required to complete the roadway which was opened to traffic, single file, by Christmas of 1939, while the whole road from Yeppoon to Emu Park was expected to be open by March of 1940.
The total cost of the Scenic Highway was 82000 pounds.
