Slides offer window into the past

Yeppoon has seen many cinemas come and go over the years.

Locals were very pleased to see Yeppoon Cinemas opening in Bay Plaza this year, after having had to drive to Rockhampton for their big screen movies since 2004.

The Roxy, located in Normanby St, opened in Christmas 1935 and was demolished in 1978. The Capricorn Coast Historical Society was donated a glass slide collection from the Roxy.

Slides were shown prior to the movie starting and they advertised local events and businesses. Society volunteers have enjoyed looking through them as a window into the past.

This slide advertises the Second Yeppoon Festival in 1954, which later became the Yeppoon and District Show.
