Steam loco at Daniel Park

Capricorn Coast Historical Society submitted this photo of the Daniel Park locomotive R 966.

For 20 years this steam locomotive was an important part of the playground equipment at Daniel Park.

It was presented to the Cooee Bay Progress Association by Mr P J Goldston, general manager, Central Division Railways, on 9 August, 1970, and accepted on behalf of the Progress Association by President Brian Dorey.

The engine was railed to Yeppoon and then the loco and tender were loaded onto separate transports to be carried via Tanby Rd to Cooee Bay, as the old Ross Creek bridge could not carry the load of the 58 ton loco.

In 1990 it was transported to Archer Park Station, then relocated to Lithgow for restoration and use on the Zig Zag Railway.
