Lucrezia Walker, an art historian visiting from London, will be in Rockhampton for the next stop on her Australian lecture tour this Saturday.
The Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society Rockhampton is looking forward to hosting Lucrezia for her illustrated presentation, ‘Andy Warhol: Prince of Pop’ which will start at 10.30am at St Theresa’s Church, corner of Bolsover and Albert Streets, Rockhampton.
Lucrezia is a lecturer and gallery guide at the National Gallery in London and teaches American undergraduates visiting London art history for their degrees. She liaises with the National Gallery and Tate Gallery/Tate Modern corporate sponsors and leads cultural tours in Europe.
Lucrezia’s lecture in Rockhampton will delve into the life and work of the American pioneer of ‘Pop Art’, Andy Warhol.
Warhol is best known for his iconic images of Marilyn, Elvis and Campbell’s soup tins, but his career encompassed far more than this.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Andy Warhol was a successful illustrator, printer, filmmaker, manager of The Velvet Underground rock band and founded Interview magazine, whilst also authoring books.
Though he coined the phrase ’15 minutes of fame’, his fame has lasted far longer and the creative force that was formed at his New York studio, The Factory, continues to influence the arts and publicity worldwide.
Anyone with an interest in modern art, creative New York in the 60s and 70s, understanding Andy Warhol’s development as an artist or simply curious is welcome to attend – free for members, $25 for visitors, which includes a delicious morning tea with Lucrezia.
