This week’s Capricorn Coast Historical Society photo was used as part of the group’s 2013 calendar.
The Australian Army camped at Cooee Bay in 1942. The photo shows men and equipment from the 42nd Battalion which was the local Central Queensland battalion. After further training in Tiaro, Townsville and on the Atherton Tablelands it served in Papua, New Guinea and Bougainville.
Cooee Bay certainly looks a lot different now, over 80 years later!
