The Capricorn Coast Historical Society summited this photo of Joy Gustafson (nee Mann) cuddling two koalas. Joy was one of a number of Australian women who met and married US servicemen who came to train here during the Second World War. The Capricorn Coast Historical Society has a number of publications that cover the war years, including Norma Hempenstall’s When the Americans Came to Town.
Rolf Schlagloth, a researcher from CQU is interested in photos, memories, articles and documents regarding our interactions with koalas over the years in the CQ region. Please contact the Historical Society on cchistsoc@yahoo.com.au if you have any relevant information to share.
