Christmas can be a lonely and difficult time of the year for many people, who simply have no place to go.
With this in mind, Volunteers Without Borders, in partnership with Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton and Teys Australia, are donning their aprons and kitchen gloves once again, to offer a traditional Christmas Banquet for the less fortunate members of our community, the homeless, those living alone, new migrants, refugees and for those who have no one to share the good tidings of the Festive Season.
The Christmas Community BBQ brunch will be held after 9.30am mass on Christmas Day, at St Joseph’s Cathedral, William Street, Rockhampton. The Volunteers Without Borders are humbled by the opportunity to share with the less fortunate members of our community the joy of giving, the joy of receiving and the joy of togetherness.
Acknowledging many people in our community are experiencing isolation and hardship, Diocese of Rockhampton Chancellor Linda Esguerra said Christmas can be one of the loneliest days of the year for people who are on their own. “This event is an opportunity for people in our community to get together and enjoy the festive season”, she said.
In a statement from Volunteers Without Boarders, a spokesperson has offered thanks to the community for their support on this journey. It is one of the best times to meet and greet and share the good tidings of the season.
