Big year for U3A uke group

Leader of the U3A Ukulele Group, Barry Lloyd and wife Lyn.

Activities at U3A Rockhampton and District have drawn to a close for 2022 with each group celebrating a very successful year.

The Ukulele group gathered at Fred Fox Hall on Wednesday, 14 December for their own fun Christmas party filled with laughter and joy.

It has been a very busy year for the group. Their colourful, dynamic performances are in demand at aged care villages throughout the area. In fact, after holding their own Christmas party this week on Wednesday, they lifted their instruments again on Friday to entertain for a very appreciative audience at Bethany Village.

U3A (University of the Third Age) began in France 49 years ago offering people retired from full-time work activities to stimulate them mentally and physically into their older years, their third age.

This concept quickly spread throughout the world filling a need felt in all communities. Programs offered by each U3A branch vary as members use their own experience and expertise to lead activities.

At U3A Rockhampton and District, over 20 different activities are offered from financial and current affairs discussions, to bird watching and gardening, poetry and writing, various crafts, and fun activities such as ukulele playing, mahjong, cards and scrabble.

There is something to appeal to everyone.

At the first monthly general meeting for 2023, on Tuesday 7th February, at Frenchville Sports Club at 9.30am, an expo of all the various available activities will be held.

Visitors are invited to come along to check out everything that U3A can offer to all retired members of the Rockhampton and district area.
