Impressive gardens at Bondoola Station

Capricorn Coast Historical Society submitted this photo of Bondoola Station in the late 1940s.

Mrs Emily Brook was appointed station mistress at Bondoola from 1945 to 1953 and was responsible for receiving and distributing the freight. She also took great pride in maintaining gardens around the station, watering them from the Limestone Creek supply.

In February 1949 the Queensland Railways Institute Magazine featured these gardens which had received third prize in the Railway Garden Competition in 1947.

In 1948 Mrs Brook was awarded a special first prize of 10 pounds for her efforts. Water from Limestone Creek was pumped to an overhead tank to fill the steam locomotives, as there was no suitable supply in Yeppoon.
