Accessible tourism, major musicals and the Australian Tourism Awards, what a month!

Did you know that people with a disability and their travelling parties spend $10.8 billion in Australia every year, accounting for 10-15 per cent of the national tourism revenue? And that 86 per cent of travellers with a disability can’t find the accessibility information they need to travel confidently?

The Queensland Government declared 2023 and 2024 ‘The Year of Accessible Tourism’ – an opportunity to recognise the importance of accessible tourism experiences for all, and to ignite change and create opportunities for Queensland tourism businesses.

Our tourism unit have developed the first phase of our Explore Rockhampton Accessibility Campaign with our commitment to making Rockhampton an inclusive place for everyone to visit.

As part of this, we are providing a FREE workshop for local operators to help us on this journey.

Accessible tourism is allowing everyone to participate in a tourism experience with choice and confidence and our campaign toolkit will help inspire others to showcase accessible experiences and improve the visitor experience for all travellers.

It is about providing enough information so that travellers can make decisions about what will work for them.

Advance Rockhampton invite all visitor-facing operators to come and attend our free two hour workshop on Tuesday, 12 March 2024, and learn about how your business can inclusively welcome all visitors.
