Explore the Rocky Zoo these holidays

When is the last time you got up close and personal with one of our furry friends at the Rockhampton Zoo?

Now offering four amazing animal encounter experiences, you can treat yourself or a loved-one to the gift of a unique animal experience.

You have seen them on Meerkat Manor, and laughed with Timon from the Lion King, now you can be part of this lovable family by joining the mob of meerkat boys in an encounter to remember, while at the same time learning all about these cheeky characters and their quirky personalities.

Meerkat encounters are available seven days a week and are by far one our most favourite visitor experiences in Rocky!

If you think watching two loveable creatures splash and play about is 'otterly’ adorable, then you will love the Otter Encounter! Be prepared for some fun and games as you meet otters Tomio and Misumi through the mesh and give them afternoon tea while having a private keeper talk to learn more about these playful creatures.

Otter experiences are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and can be booked online.

If slithering and scales are more your thing, then you will love the new snake encounters, where you can meet one of the beautiful pythons and learn all about their curious natures and why they are an important part of our natural environment.

As we launch our way into the school holidays you may like to get the kids involved as a Junior Zookeeper for Day!

This unique experience is for children aged 8-15 years and takes them behind the scenes of Rockhampton Zoo.

Children will get the chance to make enrichment items, feed the animals, help clean animal enclosures – yes you get to do the messy stuff too – and maybe even hold a reptile

while asking your Zookeeper Guide lots of questions along the way.

Children who take part in the Zookeeper for a Day experience get a dedicated Zookeeper to shadow, lunch from the Gardens Tearooms, a Rockhampton Zoo Junior Zookeeper hat and water bottle, and of course, wonderful memories of an amazing day!

Currently available during the school holidays, you can book your tickets online or better yet – surprise the kids with a remarkable gift for the holidays!

Rockhampton Zoo has FREE ENTRY and is open seven days a week.

Along with the above paid experiences, you can also join on the daily keeper talks free of charge, where you can join the Zookeepers at feeding time and learn a little about the unique personalities of our zoo friends or download the FREE Explore Rockhampton app to learn about the animals from your phone or tablet.
