As the economic agency for the Rockhampton region, Advance Rockhampton and Rockhampton Regional Council continue to work with project contractors and local businesses to maximise the benefits of major projects to our region.


Rookwood Weir is a landmark project that will capture valuable water in the lower Fitzroy River for use across the region.

The project comprises two key components:

1. constructing the weir

2. enabling works that will upgrade existing infrastructure to support both the construction of the weir and its operation

Building Rookwood Weir will:

. provide water security

. boost the regional economy

. create jobs during construction

. grow and diversify industry and agriculture

. allow for the buying and selling of water

Rookwood Weir Alliance – Acciona, McCoskers, GHD and Sunwater

Total Value of Project – $367 million

Scale of Project – Largest water infrastructure project built in Australia since WWII

Completion Date – Rookwood Weir expected to be commissioned and operational in 2023


Timeline – Construction scheduled to be complete by the end of 2024

Expected Construction Value – $800M+


The QLD State Government led Rockhampton Ring Road is a major Central Queensland infrastructure project, providing a western link of the Bruce Highway at Rockhampton. Rockhampton Ring Road will connect commuters to priority precincts including the airport and our industrial precincts, offer better connections for productivity and growth and provide an alternative heavy vehicle route.

Timeline – Construction scheduled between 2022 and 2026

Managing Contractors- To be announced early 2022

Expected Construction Value – $1.065 Billion
