The gift of a scholarship

Professor Nick Klomp, CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President

If there’s one thing that I am incredibly grateful for, it’s the outstanding generosity of our CQUniversity supporters, alumni, staff, students and friends.

Last week, we ran our CQUniCares Annual Appeal – an initiative that aims to raise enough funds to provide life transforming scholarships to at least 25 financially disadvantaged students in 2022.

I can proudly report that this year, thanks to our incredible supporters, we raised more than $140,000 – enough to award at least 25 scholarships next year.

This is a tremendous result and one that will make a huge difference to those students who are selected to receive a scholarship.

I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank the Scott Williams Foundation.

Scott has been a long-term supporter of our students, providing scholarships and matched giving funds for CQUniCares Appeals over a number of years now.

Scott is particularly passionate about students from the regions and helping them to secure a quality tertiary education.

This year, Scott pledged to match all donations to our Appeal Challenges, which doubled the overall impact of these donations!

For our CQUniCares Scholarship recipients, attending university is rarely an easy road.

Their time at university often involves juggling work, career responsibilities, and study, always trying to keep those balls in the air without dropping one.

The gift of a scholarship – money that can be used to purchase essential grocery items, pay rent, fuel a car, replace a broken laptop, or buy new school shoes for the kids – takes a lot of that pressure off.

Imagine how many potential future medical researchers, social justice advocates, tech entrepreneurs, small business owners, paramedics – people who give so much to our society – may never actually reach their potential, because university was the one ball they had to drop?

Our CQUniCares Scholarships, made possible by the sheer generosity of our donors, give students from all walks of life a fighting chance to realise their potential.

So, from the bottom of my heart – thank you.

Thank you to all of those individuals and organisations who made a donation to the 2021 CQUniCares Appeal. Your generosity truly changes lives, and we are ever so grateful for your continued support.
