Bluebirds United have continued their impressive start to the season with a solid 6-0 victory over the Frenchville Roos.
The ever-improving Roos squad were able to hold out the premiership heavyweights for 26 minutes before Bluebirds’ Jessica Maitland would break the deadlock.
Maitland’s single goal would be the only thing separating the squads at the half time break however with Roos defending extremely well.
That defence would be broken early in the second stanza however when Bec Toohey scored in the 47th minute.
Back-to-back goals in a minute would seal the result for United with Monika Lama and Linda Pepper scoring in the 66th and 67th minutes respectively.
After maintaining their 4-0 lead for just shy of 20 minutes, the Blueys would add two more goals to the tally.
Maitland would secure her brace with a goal in the 85th before Katrina Walker would seal the deal with a goal two minutes later to make the final score 6-0.
The closest match of the women’s FQPL-3 competition came at Clinton Field when the Grubs just scraped by the keen Nerimbera Magpies.
Nerimbera star Rachel Christensen would open the scoring in the 31st minute to give the Magpies a 1-0 advantage however the Clinton ladies would hit back within five minutes.
Cyrena Dixon’s 36th minute strike would level the scores at 1-1 where they would remain for 40 minutes.
It was only in the 75th where prolific goal scorer Skye Noonan would grab the game by the throat and become the match winner.
Noonan’s eighth goal of the season would see her win a crucial game for the Grubs as they moved three points ahead of their weekend opposition.
And in the final match of the round, Central FC flexed their muscle with a 17-0 victory over the Berserker Bears.
Shelbi Vienna-Hallam moved to the top of the golden boot race with a double hattrick while teammates Romy Smedley and Mahney Jenkins both scored four goals each.
Beck Emerson, Larissa Raffin and Ella Remana chipped in with the final three goals in a dominant win for the league leaders.
That thrashing now sees the Central squad lead the competition with an impressive 28 goals scored with the team yet to concede a goal.
The FQPL-3 competition will now break for two weeks across the Easter holidays before returning on 12 April with Nerimbera colliding with Frenchville FC on the Friday night.
