What’s on for Seniors Month

Seniors Month is an important opportunity for each of us to recognise and appreciate our community’s seniors.

October is Queensland Seniors Month, and an important opportunity for each of us to recognise and appreciate our community’s seniors.

It’s a chance to recognise our senior residents and show our appreciation for their continued influence on our region, their dedication to our community, and their individual stories and footprints.

They play pivotal roles in shaping our region through involvement in local organisations, devoted advocacy and volunteer work, and through mentoring our younger generations.

Whether it be a friend, relative, neighbour or colleague – we all know someone who we should take the time to celebrate and celebrate with this Seniors Month.

As we wrap up September, I am really excited to announce that there will be a number of local events taking place over the coming weeks to help us celebrate, and one in particular that is near and dear to me.

I would like to encourage everyone to head along to the Pilbeam Theatre on Monday 16 October for the Mayor’s Treat Morning Melodies event.

The Morning Melodies are a fantastic concert series held at the Pilbeam throughout the year, with one held in October to coincide with Seniors Month.

We are really proud to provide funding to this event each year and help bring the cost of the tickets down.

This year’s event is set to be another terrific day out, with King of the Swingers – Sinatra Through the Years.

It’s a one-and-a-half hour show plus morning tea – for $5 total.

The show is an authentic sounding tribute concert to the unforgettable music of “Ol’ Blue Eyes” himself, Frank Sinatra.

Starring Rhydian Lewis and one of Australia’s finest bands, The Residuals, King of the Swingers will feature many of Sinatra’s hits such as Come Fly With Me, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, My Way and the theme from New York New York.

You can purchase your ticket from the Pilbeam Theatre Box Office or online at www.seeitlive.com.au

There’s a wide variety of other events taking place across the region for Seniors Month, including breakfasts, luncheons, craft sessions, trivia, music and dance, and financial information sessions.

You can find a full list of events on our website under the Community Events section.

Let us all take the time to celebrate Seniors Month in the Rockhampton Region this year and shine a spotlight on the seniors in our lives.
