Calling broadacre farmers

Central Queensland’s leading natural resource management organisation, Fitzroy Basin Association (FBA), is calling for expressions of interest from broadacre farmers wanting to improve their soil health to boost productivity.

This initiative is a part of FBA’s ‘Nature Positive Fitzroy Farms’ project, which is a $9.4 million investment from the Queensland Government into the Fitzroy region over the next three years.

The investment delivers on the Government’s commitment to boost and support the management of Queensland’s natural assets, with more projects approved across the state under the Natural Resource Management Expansion Program (NRMEP).

Through tailored, on-ground support, FBA will assist with implementing new practices such as cover cropping, multi-species rotations, and the use of non-synthetic fertilisers.

These practices have proven to improve soil condition, restore productivity, and strengthen resilience on central Queensland properties.

FBA’s ‘Nature Positive Fitzroy Farms’ project focuses on protecting and enhancing biodiversity across 17,000 hectares of Brigalow Country through land management, soil resilience, and vegetation restoration.

FBA has supported land managers across the Fitzroy region for almost 30 years, helping to secure investment that strengthens both production and ecosystem health in one of Australia’s most productive agricultural regions.

CEO Elyse Riethmuller said FBA is eager to partner with land managers.

“We’re excited to work with farmers to understand their goals and help them achieve them while improving the condition and long-term resilience of their country,” Elyse said.

Land managers interested in participating can complete a short expression of interest form at www.fba.org.au/fba-connect. FBA officers will then contact applicants to discuss opportunities and next steps.
